Background: Hemagglutinin (HA) binds to sialic acid-containing receptors on the cell surface bringing about the attachment of the virus particle to the cell. Plays a major role in the determination of host range restriction and virulence. Class I viral fusion protein. Responsible for penetration of the virus into the cell cytoplasm by mediating the fusion of the membrane of the endocytosed virus particle with the endosomal membrane. Low pH in endosomes induce an irreversible conformational change in HA2 releasing the fusion hydrophobic peptide. Several trimers are required to form a competent fusion pore.
Post-translational modificationi
HAo is consists of 584 amino acids with molecular mass of 63275. In natural infection inactive HA is matured into HA1 and HA2. By the sequence similarity it is indicated to be palmitoylated.

Background: Influenza virus nucleoprotein (NP) is a major component of the ribonucleoprotein complex and is abundantly expressed during the course of infection. It is a structural protein which encapsidates the negative strand viral RNA and is essential for RNA transcription replication and packaging. From the nucleotide sequence NP
is consists of 560 amino acids with calculated molecular mass of 61770.

Post-translational modification: Late in virus-infected cells may be cleaved from a 56-kDa protein to a 53-kDa protein by a cellular caspase. This cleavage might be a marker for the onset of apoptosis in infected cells or have a specific function in virus host interaction.

HIV-1 protease is the aspartyl protease that mediates proteolytic cleavages of Gag and Gag-Pol polyproteins during or shortly after the release of the virion from the plasma membrane. Cleavages take place as an ordered step-wise cascade to yield mature proteins. This process is called maturation. Displays maximal activity during the budding process just prior to particle release from the cell. Also cleaves Nef and Vif probably concomitantly with viral structural proteins on maturation of virus particles. Hydrolyzes host EIF4GI and PABP1 in order to shut off the capped cellular mRNA translation. The resulting inhibition of cellular protein synthesis serves to ensure maximal viral gene expression and to evade host immune response.

Varicella Zoster Virus (VZV) is one of eight herpesviruses known to infect humans and vertebrates. VZV only affects humans and commonly causes chickenpox in children teens and young adults and herpes zoster (shingles) in adults and rarely in children. VZV is known by many names including chickenpox virus varicella virus zoster virus and human herpesvirus type 3 (HHV-3).
VZV infects the nerves and causes a wide variety of symptoms. After the primary infection (chickenpox) the virus goes dormant in the nerves including the cranial nerve ganglia dorsal root ganglia and autonomic ganglia. Many years after the patient has recovered from chickenpox VZV can reactivate to cause a number of neurologic conditions
The heterodimer glycoprotein H-glycoprotein L is required for the fusion of viral and plasma membranes leading to virus entry into the host cell. Following initial binding of gD to one of its receptors membrane fusion is mediated by the fusion machinery composed at least of gB and the heterodimer gH/gL. May also be involved in the fusion between the virion envelope and the outer nuclear membrane during virion morphogenesis
gH is consists of 841 amino acids with molecular mass of 94 kDa
